THE WASHINGTON POST (June 2010-present)

  • Designing news, features and sports as part of a 20-plus person design desk. I even did an illustration for KidsPost.

COUNCIL FOR CHRISTIAN COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES (May 2008-November 2009)

  • Media relations & publications manager. First contact with mainstream and higher education media. Editor of two trade association magazines. Main writer, editor and digital content manager.

THE RIVERSIDE PRESS-ENTERPRISE (April 2005-June 2006)

  • A1 and Local designer. (If you go to Wikipedia and search for the P-E, you’ll see a thumbnail of the front page for July 27, 2005. That was my first A1 for the paper. True story.)

THE DAILY BREEZE (March 2004-April 2005)

  • Local and business designer/copy editor. Worked in a gloriously hideous blue building on Torrance Blvd. They moved to a normal beige business tower on Hawthorne Blvd. long after I left.

THE SAN ANGELO STANDARD-TIMES (January 2003-March 2004)

  • Copy editor/designer. One of a bunch of fresh out of college students who put together the paper. Wrote a story about an awesome movie theater (See Waiting for a Flicker for said awesome story).

A really bad COFFEE SHOP in Southern California (Don’t want to talk about it)

  • I can make a decent dry cappuccino.

M.A in communication management, emphasis on health & social change communication.
Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, University of Southern California. Received degree in December 2007. Master’s thesis: Around the Table: Where Identity and Religion Meet. (Go to ‘Academic Words’ to download and read my thesis if you’re so inclined.)

B.A. communication studies, emphasis in Journalism.
Azusa Pacific University. Received degree in May 2002.
Studied as an associate student at St. Edmund’s Hall, Oxford University, Oxford, England during the fall semester of 2000.
